TATTOOS

and more…

WELCOME!

I am Luis Bruna, an artist, sign painter and tattooer based in Bremen, Germany. My atelier is located at the Kultivatorium.

My approach comes from learning by doing, experimenting and figuring things out along the way, using to best of my capacity what I was taught in the numerous art workshops I have taken across Spain, England, Netherland, Italy and Germany.

Influenced by lowbrow art, tattoo culture and traditional craftsmanship, I like keeping the work hands on, personal and a little unpolished. I work with different techniques and materials such as:

  • Glass Art: Two of my favourite techniques are Stained Glass and Reverse Glass Painting (for this technique see below). With Stained Glass I try to keep alive the tradition of the glass art seen in cathedral windows to a smaller scale and from a more modern perspective.

  • Sign Painting: Here I also employ two different techniques, 1. Reverse Glass Painting: The decoration of glass/mirrors with enamel paint and gold leaf. It is widely used for businesses’ shopwindows, showcasing the name and/or a variety of ornamentations; 2. Traditional Sign Painting: In which I paint decorations, names or any sort of information such as the ones decribed previously for businesses and homes. Usually done on wood, metal, walls and other unconventional surfaces such as cars, motorcycles or skateboards.

  • Illustrations: The creation of labels, logos and illustrations in general with fineliner pens, markers and ink makes the vectorising and printing process easier.

I’m not interested in making everything look perfect. I like visible brushstrokes, textures, small imperfections and the character that comes with making something by hand.

I’m still learning and experimenting, and I don’t think that will ever stop. That’s what keeps it interesting.
